Discover the captivating art of storytelling through Classical Indian Dance Theatre! In our six-hour workshop, you will immerse yourself in the world of Abhinaya – the art of expressing emotions through movement.

You will learn how to bring stories to life using hand gestures, eye movements, and head gestures. Experience the powerful impact of these forms of expression on the art of storytelling and find an outer expression for your inner experiences.

This two and a half-hour session offers a hands-on and reflective introduction to musical improvisation. But it’s not just about how to improvise on your instrument — it’s about how to react, correspond, and stay present with both musical and non-musical elements.

You’ll explore the role of awareness, rhythm, tension, timing, and spontaneous decision-making through guided exercises and group interaction.

14 + 15 June 2025

Workshop participants will learn the basic syllables and rhythms of the Kecak, and practise the rebana rhythms using drums, handclaps and body percussion. There will also be some frame drums available but please bring your own drum with you to the workshop if you have one.
